Role description:
As a Research Laboratory Assistant, the role will be to support R&D projects by working with Scientists to complete experiments for novel organ-on-a-chip model and assay projects to a high standard, as well as working alongside the Laboratory Manager to maintain the laboratory to a high standard. The role responsibilities will include:
- Auditing and maintaining essential stocks in the R&D laboratory.
- Operating and maintaining standard laboratory equipment.
- Cell line and primary cell culture – expanding cells and ensuring sufficient cell stocks are available.
- Preparing and maintaining organ-on-a-chip experiments using the CN Bio PhysioMimix system.
- Performing biological assays – including ELISAs, microscopy, and qPCR.
- Completing data analysis and producing reports to be used both internally and externally.
Qualifications and Experience:
Essential:
- Experience working in a laboratory environment in research or industry.
- Knowledge and experience of a broad array of relevant lab techniques (cell culture, molecular biology, immunoassays).
Desirable:
- Degree in Biology, Biochemistry or related life-sciences subject or
- Experience working in the life sciences industry (Biotech, Pharma, Medical Devices) with an understanding of the drug discovery process, and the pharmaceutical industry.
- Experience in primary cell culture, ELISAs, qPCR and microscopy.
- Experience maintaining laboratory stocks and using inventory management systems.
Required skills:
Essential:
- Strong interpersonal and communication (oral and written) skills.
- Highly analytical, able to interpret complex sets of data with excellent attention to detail.
- Problem-solver, uses experience to identify problems and developing proposed solutions that minimise risk and ensure delivery.
- High standard of computer literacy, particularly relating to Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
Desirable:
- Familiarity with specific research tools such as Image J and GraphPad Prism.
