Customer & Commercial Support Assistant

 

Location: Cambridge Science Park (Hybrid, min 3 days in the office)

Contract: Full-time, permanent

Reports to: VP of Sales & Marketing

Functional area: Commercial Team

Salary: £28,000 – £30,000

Role Description

This is a great opportunity to join a growing and innovative organisation. As a Customer & Commercial Support Assistant, you’ll play an important role in supporting customers, assisting the Commercial team, and keeping day-to-day commercial processes running smoothly. You’ll be supported to learn, develop new skills, and take on increasing responsibility over time. This role is well suited to candidates with proactive attitude, strong organisation skills, and an interest in building a career in a commercial or customer facing role.

 

Commercial Support

  • Support the preparation and issuing of quotes for consumables to existing customers
  • Assist with managing service and support contracts, including renewals
  • Carry out initial review and routing of inbound sales enquiries
  • Support administration of customer onboarding and vendor forms, including third‑party purchasing platforms (e.g. Scientist.com, Science Exchange)
  • Work with Product Management to help ensure commercial documents and materials are up to date
  • Support commercial events, including preparation and shipment of marketing materials
  • Assist with organising and coordinating Commercial team meetings & customer events, working closely with senior commercial colleagues
  • Plus other relevant duties in line with business needs

 

Customer Support

  • Manage the Sales inbox, responding to or routing inbound customer enquiries
  • Support customers with order tracking, customs queries, and delivery updates, working closely with logistics
  • Act as a link between customers and finance for basic billing and invoicing queries
  • Assist with coordination of return‑to‑base repairs, keeping customers informed throughout the process
  • Creating and maintaining customer profiles in our financial system Odoo
  • Process incoming customer purchase orders, convert them to sales orders, and send acknowledgements.
  • Support distributors as a first point of contact for commercial enquiries

 

What You’ll Bring

  • A minimum of 2 years of experience in office and customer facing environment. Ideally within science or technology, but not essential
  • Comfortable using Microsoft Office and customer management systems i.e. CRM and ERP
  • A customer-focused, helpful, and reliable approach
  • Clear and professional written and verbal communication skills
  • Strong organisational skills and attention to detail
  • Willingness to learn new systems, processes, and product knowledge
  • A positive, collaborative attitude and openness to feedback
