Role Requirements:
We seek a strategic and experienced Director of Operations to join our team and lead the next phase of our growth. This role will drive performance improvements across Safety, Quality, Logistics, Inventory, Manufacturing, and Customer Service. The current headcount for this role is approximately 10.
Key Responsibilities:
Facilities Management:
In partnership with Office Manager:
- Oversee the maintenance, safety, and security of all company facilities.
- Manage building systems, including HVAC, electrical, plumbing, water, and security.
- Coordinate space planning and office layout to support operational needs.
- Responsible for compliance with all health, safety, and environmental regulations.
- Manage relationships with facility service providers and contractors.
- Co-ordinate the use of warehouse facilities for storing items away from the main facility.
Manufacturing Management:
Supporting Head of Production and team:
- Oversee the manufacturing process to ensure efficiency and quality.
- Implement lean manufacturing techniques to reduce waste and improve productivity.
- Manage relationships with suppliers and vendors to ensure timely delivery of materials.
- Monitor production schedules to meet customer demand and company goals.
Health and Safety (H&S) Leadership:
- Lead health and safety initiatives across the organisation. and chair the H&S committee.
- Develop and implement health and safety policies and procedures and oversee training.
Supply Chain Management:
Supporting Head of Production and team:
- Develop and implement supply chain strategies to ensure the timely and cost-effective procurement of materials.
- Oversee the management of supplier relationships and negotiate contracts to secure favourable terms.
- Oversee inventory management to ensure optimal stock levels and minimise waste.
- Monitor supply chain performance and implement improvements as needed.
- Coordinate with internal departments to forecast demand and plan supply requirements, utilising the ERP system.
- Work alongside the finance team to ensure working capital requirements to maintain appropriate stock levels are aligned with overall company budgets.
Logistics Management:
Supporting Head of Production and team:
- Oversee the logistics operations, including shipping, receiving, and distribution.
- Ensure timely and accurate delivery of products to customers and partners.
- Develop and implement logistics strategies to improve efficiency and reduce costs.
- Manage relationships with logistics service providers and carriers.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant transportation regulations and standards.
Customer Service Management:
Supporting Head of Production and team:
- Develop and implement customer service policies and procedures.
- Strengthen customer service function to ensure high levels of customer satisfaction.
- Resolve escalated customer issues and complaints effectively.
- Monitor customer feedback and use it to drive improvements in products and services.
Leadership and Management:
- Lead cross-functional teams across the organisation to support and improve facilities, manufacturing, supply chain, and logistics functions.
- Foster a culture of continuous improvement, collaboration, and excellence.
- Develop and manage budgets for facilities, supply chain, and logistics operations.
- Provide regular reports and updates to senior management on key performance indicators and strategic initiatives.
- Monitor and address quality issues promptly, driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Operations Management, Supply Chain Management, Facilities Management, or a related field is desirable.
- Demonstrable experience in facilities management, supply chain, and logistics, preferably in the life sciences or a related industry.
- Proven leadership experience with a track record of managing cross-functional teams.
- Strong knowledge of supply chain and logistics best practices and technologies.
- Excellent project management and problem-solving skills.
- Strong negotiation and contract management abilities.
- Familiarity with health, safety, and environmental regulations in the UK.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
