CN Bio Innovations is a life sciences company delivering human-focused research and discovery enabled by a unique and proven Organ-on-a-Chip platform. We are at the forefront of the rapidly growing field of human Organs-on-Chips thanks in part to being a successful co-recipient with the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 2012 of a $26M US Federal contract to develop the “Human Body-on-a-Chip”: a tablet sized device incorporating ten miniature interacting human organs. In the past three years the company has worked with several pharmaceutical companies using our Organ-on-Chip platforms in the study of drug efficacy, drug metabolism and toxicology. CN Bio is now advancing its own drug programs towards the clinic in Hepatitis B and other liver indications and is seeking an experienced Project Manager to join our growing team.


CN Bio is seeking a highly motivated Project Manager to coordinate operational activities relating to drug discovery and the early stages of drug development. In this role you will be an active member of the company’s senior team and contribute to strategic decisions to advance research projects from early discovery to clinical development in a way most likely to result in long-term success of projects. You will report to the Chief Scientific Officer and be based at the company’s facilities in Welwyn Garden City, UK.



  • Overall responsibility for the coordination of activities in drug discovery and non-clinical drug development to deliver Candidates with the requisite in vitro and in vivo data packages
  • Accountable for the coordination and financial control of discovery, translational and development activities with outsourced service providers
  • Ensures the success of external collaborations with key opinion leaders and subject matter experts in liver infection and liver diseases
  • Single point of contact for all internal and external project-related partners
  • Organises, leads and generates minutes from meetings and teleconferences with project-related partners
  • Accountable for being up to date with current status and key project-related data and know-how
  • Regular reporting to management and board of directors on the current status of projects

Strategic, Operations & Finance

Supports the Chief Scientific Officer to make the best use of human and financial resources

  • Establish budgets and determines resource needs for ongoing and new projects
  • Participate in future planning and annual budgeting processes
  • Contributes to building a robust pre-clinical and clinical pipeline by proposing in-licensing candidates and providing input to their evaluation

Qualifications & Selection Criteria

  • Life science education – good undergraduate degree in molecular/cell biology or virology and PhD strongly preferred
  • Proactive self-starter with a strong drive and initiative
  • Min. 5 years’ experience in project management in drug discovery/development in pharma/biotech, preferably with experience in biotech/start-up companies
  • Detailed knowledge of project planning, tracking, resource management, project planning and scheduling tools
  • Broad understanding of international regulations, processes and issues in drug development. Includes in-depth understanding of GxP (Good Practices for quality guidelines and practices in the pharmaceutical/biotechnology or related industry), GCP (Good Clinical Practice), ICH (International Conference on Harmonisation of Technical Requirements for Registration of Pharmaceuticals for Human Use), and related systems that support clinical trials and clinical operations processes
  • Experience in outsourcing and negotiating with service providers
  • Strong leadership skills and experience managing multi-disciplinary or matrixed teams to ensure corporation and communication between internal and external teams and company management
  • Good document management, organisational and administrative skills
  • Track record of meeting project goals on time and in-budget
  • Team player with a “can-do” attitude
  • Highly numerate and articulate with excellent written (English), verbal communication and social skills
  • Strong MS-Project and MS-Office skills (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook)


Requires intermittent travel including international


Salary: Competitive, dependent on experience
